NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – A federal court has ruled in Illumina's favor in a lawsuit filed by Helicos BioSciences that had alleged patent infringement.

William Young said the firm's platform — which uses digital barcoding to enable multiplexed, direct profiling of individual molecules in a single reaction without amplification — is currently deployed for research purposes, but he sees a big opportunity in diagnostics and pharmacogenomics.
