biomarker discovery

The company is continuing development of a cancer biomarker knowledgebase that it plans to take to market in 2011.

Researchers have received five-year awards totaling $17.5 million toward ongoing coordination of the Early Detection Research Network, as well as projects centered on colon cancer biomarker discovery, and breast and ovarian cancer biomarker validation.

The software, which is anticipated to be launched next year, will allow research teams to build biomarker hypotheses, request expressions of interest and prepare proposals for clinical development.

The company is considering several open source and commercial software tools for next-generation sequence analysis and will also develop bespoke tools for areas such as transcriptomics and splice discovery.

The Tokyo facility will be modeled on the BRIMS Center and focus on biomarker discovery and quantification, disease mechanisms, therapeutic drug monitoring, and disease pathophysiology.

As part of the effort, MorphoSys will explore relevant biomarkers for the anti-CD38 approach in collaboration with the university hospital of Munich Technical University.

The accreditation allows the division, which is increasingly focused on providing biomarkers for the development of companion diagnostics, to support later phases of drug development.

Agilent, which sees metabolomics as a "major growth area," will provide a 1290 Infinity HPLC, a mass spec, and software to Stemina.

Thermo Fisher will team with a new proteomics research group that is part of CRP-Santé to develop workflows for biomarker discovery and assay development for clinical proteomics research.

Telegraph Hill Partners led a financing round that will support AltheaDx's companion diagnostic partnerships.
