Synlab to Offer Counsyl's Inherited Disease Screening Test in Europe, Latin America

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – German diagnostic services firm Synlab has signed an agreement with Counsyl to offer a branded version of Counsyl's inherited disease screening test in Europe and Latin America.

Under the terms of the agreement, Synlab will commercialize the Expanded Carrier Screening (ECS) test as preconGen. Initially, the test will be available in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, and Colombia.

Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Offering Counsyl's ECS product in Europe and Latin America will provide more people with important genetic information about serious conditions," Counsyl Senior VP for Corporate Development Matthew Meyer said in a statement. "As a leading diagnostic laboratory service provider with a broad footprint and extensive medical experience, Synlab is an ideal international partner for Counsyl."

Counsyl has commercialized the test in the US as the Family Prep Screen. In January, the firm pivoted toward women's health, laying off its dedicated oncology sales team and founding a coalition with other genetic screening firms to promote access to noninvasive prenatal testing.

Synlab has handled European commercialization for several diagnostic test developers, including Metabolon, Guardant Health, and Genetic Analysis.
