SOLiD Software Analysis Tools, GenomeQuest 5.0, Metagenomic DNA Isolation Kit

Applied Biosystems has made new, internally developed software analysis tools for its SOLiD system available to researchers. They include a whole-genome color space alignment and read annotation tool; a tool for converting native SOLiD data into the Short Read Format for NCBI submission; a tool for consolidating reference-aligned SOLiD data into the General Feature Format; and an analysis pipeline for aligning small RNA sequence data to the human genome that includes tag counting features. GenomeQuest has released GenomeQuest 5.0, a new edition of its high-throughput sequence search, analysis, and data management platform. New features include a new annotation layout, new ways of grouping and saving information, improved reporting, advanced syntax for keyword searching, and a Vector NTI connection.
 

 
Epicentre has launched a Metagenomic DNA Isolation kit for water to extract DNA for metagenomic library production. The kit isolates DNA from culturable and unculturable microbes in water samples, including gram-positive bacteria. The isolated DNA can be used immediately for end-repair and cloning into a vector.
