Population Genetics Assigns NGS Library Prep Patent to NEB

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb News) – Population Genetics Technologies has assigned to New England Biolabs the exclusive rights to a patent covering methods related to next-generation sequencing library preparation, the two firms said today.

PGT has assigned to NEB US Patent No. 8,420,319, which they said "enables increased efficiency at the adaptor ligation step, resulting in high yield libraries and minimized adaptor-dimer formation."

The patent was issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office in April. According to its abstract, it provides methods and composition "for asymmetrically tagging a nucleic acid fragment using asymmetric adapters."

Financial and other terms were not disclosed.
