Pillar Biosciences, Hamilton Partner on NGS Panel Automation

NEW YORK – Pillar Biosciences said Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic application-development and comarketing partnership with Hamilton.

Under the terms of the deal, Hamilton will develop automation scripts and supporting technical and commercial literature for select research-use-only next-generation sequencing panels from Pillar for use on the Hamilton Microlab STAR liquid handling system. The partners will first tackle Pillar's OncoReveal Essential MPN panel.

The agreement covers the Americas, Asia-Pacific countries, and New Zealand. Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Time, workflow complexity, and overall testing costs are barriers for the broader adoption of localized NGS testing solutions," Dan Harma, chief commercial officer of Pillar Biosciences, said in a statement. "Combining the speed and simplicity of our NGS products and workflow with the global scale and automation capabilities of the Hamilton liquid handling systems will help ensure more laboratories, researchers, and clinicians receive the tumor profiling results they need."

Pillar offers research and clinical NGS panels based on its amplification technology. It has also partnered with Danaher's Beckman Coulter Life Sciences on automated library prep.
