Pacific Biosciences has appointed Lucy Shapiro to its board of directors. Shapiro is currently the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig professor of cancer research and director of the Beckman Center for Molecular and Genetic Medicine at Stanford University's School of Medicine. She has been a faculty member at Stanford since 1989. Shapiro is also a co-founder and director of Anacor Pharmaceuticals. She holds a BA from Brooklyn College and a PhD in molecular biology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.



Agilent Technologies
has named Lars Holmkvist as a senior vice president and president of its Diagnostics and Genomics group. Holmkvist was president and CEO of diagnostic developer Dako, which Agilent acquired in June. He joined Dako from Applied Biosystems and previously was at Medtronic Vascular and Cardiac Surgery.
