Francis deSouza will join Illumina as president in December. He will report to CEO Jay Flatley and will lead Illumina's business units and the core functions responsible for envisioning, developing, and producing the company's products. He will also become part of Illumina's executive management team.

DeSouza joins Illumina from Symantec, where he is currently president of products and services. Prior to that, he held a variety of executive roles at Symantec, which he joined in 2006, when company acquired IMlogic, where he was co-founder and CEO. Before that, he was co-founder and CEO of Flash Communications, which was acquired by Microsoft. DeSouza holds MS and BS degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
