Alan Guttmacher has been appointed as director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, an institute of the National Institutes of Health. He has been NICHD's acting director since last December. Prior to that, he was acting director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, and before that, NHGRI's deputy director. He came to the NIH from the University of Vermont, where he directed the department of pediatrics' Vermont Regional Genetics Center and pregnancy risk information service. Guttmacher holds degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School.

Mason Morfit has been appointed to the board of directors of Immucor. He is a partner with ValueAct Capital, an investment management firm that is currently Immucor's largest shareholder. Morfit is a former director of Solexa. He holds a BA from Princeton University.
