Eric Schadt has become chief scientific officer of Pacific Biosciences, a new position (see article in this issue). He joins the company from Rosetta Inpharmatics, a subsidiary of Merck in Seattle, where he was executive scientific director of genetics. Prior to that he was a senior research scientist at Roche Bioscience. Schadt holds a PhD in biomathematics and an MA in pure mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a BA in applied mathematics and computer science from California Polytechnic State University.


Frank Massam has joined Population Genetics Technologies as vice president of business development. Previously, he held senior business development positions with Incyte Genomics and Pharmagene and was responsible for strategic planning and new business development at Agilent Technologies.
