Vincent Bruno has joined the Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the department of microbiology and immunology. Bruno focuses on the pathogenomics of fungus, such as Candida albicans, an invasive human pathogen that resides in the gastrointestinal tract, and discovered 600 new genes in its genome by transcriptome sequencing. Bruno holds a PhD from Columbia University and a BS from Carnegie Mellon University.
Fluidigm has named Patrick Jones to its board of directors, filling a vacancy that was created by the resignation of Jeremy Loh, which was effective on March 10. Jones will also join and chair the board's audit committee. Jones has been a private investor since March 2001. He currently sits on the boards of several public companies including Epocrates, a provider of clinical solutions to healthcare professionals; Novell, an infrastructure software provider; Lattice Semiconductor, a semiconductor company; and Openwave Systems, a telecom infrastructure software provider.
