New Products: Agilent's ScreenTape Assays; Convey's PacBioToCa

Premium

Agilent Technologies has launched the RNA ScreenTape and the D1000 ScreenTape assays for quality control of samples in next-generation sequencing workflows. The new assays replace the R6K and D1K ScreenTape assays. The new RNA assay assesses total RNA for eukaryotic and prokaryotic samples, while the D1000 assay delivers closer alignment in sizing and quantification to the 2100 Bioanalyzer system.

Convey has launched PacBioToCa, an assembly algorithm for genomes sequenced on Pacific Bioinformatics RS technology, on its Convey HC system. The algorithm was developed last year by researchers at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center, and it combines short read sequences either from PacBio's circular consensus sequencing or short reads from other sequencing platforms with PacBio's long reads. Running the PacBioToCa algorithm on a Convey HC system speeds up the assembly process, according to the company.

Genetic Testing Approach Explores Origins of Blastocyst Aneuploidy

Investigators in AJHG distinguish between aneuploidy events related to meiotic missegregation in haploid cells and those involving post-zygotic mitotic errors and mosaicism.

Study Looks at Parent Uncertainties After Children's Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Diagnoses

A qualitative study in EJHG looks at personal, practical, scientific, and existential uncertainties in parents as their children go through SCID diagnoses, treatment, and post-treatment stages.

Antimicrobial Resistance Study Highlights Key Protein Domains

By screening diverse versions of an outer membrane porin protein in Vibrio cholerae, researchers in PLOS Genetics flagged protein domain regions influencing antimicrobial resistance.

Latent HIV Found in White Blood Cells of Individuals on Long-Term Treatments

Researchers in Nature Microbiology find HIV genetic material in monocyte white blood cells and in macrophages that differentiated from them in individuals on HIV-suppressive treatment.
