CLC Bio and PSSC Labs have launched CLC Genomics Factory, a hardware-software system for assembly, read mapping, and downstream analysis of very large amounts of high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data.
The product comes in three sizes with different numbers of compute nodes and is capable of processing the data output from up to 10 Illumina HiSeq2000 or seven Life Technologies ABI SOLiD 4 systems. It can analyze data from all types of existing high-throughput sequencing instruments and is also compatible with upcoming technologies such as the Ion Torrent and Pacific Biosciences systems.
CLC Genomics Factory is built around CLC Bio's enterprise platform, including its CLC Genomics Server, as well as all of the firm’s accelerated algorithms for full-genome assembly and analysis. Multiple licenses for CLC Genomics Workbench enable users to interface with the server software through either a graphical user interface or a command line interface. The product also includes support for CLC Bio’s Software Developer Kit for the integration of third-party systems and software.
In addition, CLC Genomics Factory, which is sold by CLC Bio and its resellers, includes a master node, multiple job nodes, and varying amounts of storage. The hardware is assembled, tested, distributed, and supported by PSSC Labs, while CLC Bio handles the software support.
SeqCentral has launched a beta version of its scalable cloud-based genetic sequence alignment service. The web service allows scientists to run the most recent versions of popular alignment tools, such as NCBI Blast. Hits are stored redundantly and can be shared with collaborators. The company plans to release the service widely in September and is offering no-fee beta accounts until then.
