SoftGenetics has added a variant scoring system to its NextGene software to assist researchers and clinicians using next-generation sequencing. The scoring system provides confidence scoring based on multiple factors, such as depth of coverage, directionality balance, presence of homopolymers, and sequence direction, with greater weight given to the 5'-end of the sequence. It can be used for sequences generated by the Illumina
Genome Analyzer, Roche/454 Titanium GS FLX, and Life Technologies ABI SOLiD system. The company offers 30-day trials and web-based training on its genetic analysis software packages.
GenBank release 177.0 is available here via FTP from the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It contains data as of April 14, 2010. The new release comprises approximately 114 gigabases and 119 million entries from non-WGS, non-CON sequences, and 165 gigabases and 58 million entries from WGS sequences.
Uncompressed, release 177.0 flat files require roughly 439 gigabytes for sequence files only. The ASN.1 data require approximately 361 gigabytes.
