Helicos BioSciences has introduced a series of new sequencing kits and run configurations for its Helicos Genetic Analysis System that expand the instrument's versatility. Customers can now choose to use either one or two flow cells, and between one and 50 channels on them. They can also adjust the number of DNA strands imaged and select from run times between two-and-a-half and eight days. The new kits and configurations require no hardware changes, Helicos said.

COSMIC, the Catalog of Somatic Mutations in Cancer, version 45 is now available here. The new edition contains data from a full-genome resequencing study and a genome-wide rearrangement screen that were recently published by researchers at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, as well as five new cancer genes have been curated from the literature. In addition, version 45 contains a new biomart that allows for more specialized data selection, and the website has been updated with several new features.
