New England Biolabs now offers the NEBNext DNA Sample Prep Reagent Set 1, a set of reagents suited for sample preparation for next-generation sequencing and for the preparation of expression libraries. The components have been validated together through construction and sequencing of a genomic DNA library on an Illumina Genome Analyzer II, and by construction of an expression library, the company said.

GenBank release 173.0 is now available here via FTP from the National Center for Biotechnology Information. It contains data as of Aug. 21. The new release comprises approximately 106.5 gigabases and 108 million entries from non-WGS, non-CON sequences, and 146 gigabases and 48 million entries from WGS sequences.

COSMIC release 43, the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer, is available here. The new release includes data from a published large-scale systematic screen of human breast and colorectal cancers as well as two new genes curated from the scientific literature and data from two resequencing studies of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute’s Cancer Genome Project.
