MGI Tech, Dasa Partner to Expand Sequencing-Based Diagnostics in Brazil

NEW YORK – MGI Tech said Thursday that it has inked a partnership with medical diagnostics company Dasa to improve next-gen sequencing-based diagnostics in Brazil.

Financial terms or other details of the deal were not disclosed.

The companies plan to leverage MGI's sequencing and lab automation technologies with Dasa's expertise in diagnostics and large healthcare network to boost the accessibility of genomic testing for patients in Brazil. MGI is engaging in "several projects" with Dasa, according to an MGI spokesperson, who did not elaborate. A Dasa spokesperson said the collaboration will include medical education.

Additionally, MGI said Dasa has implemented its sequencers and automation products in its network of laboratories, including the DNBSeq-T7 platform.

"With the new platform, we have gained a lot in quality, timeliness, productivity, standardization of routine processes, and data processing," Gustavo Riedel, director of Genomics LATAM at Dasa, said in a statement. "We want to guarantee more access for the population, in the shortest possible time, at an increasingly affordable cost."

"With Dasa, we will contribute to strengthening genomics in the country, advancing personalized medicine, and promoting health for the Brazilian population," Carlos Carpio, MGI's senior commercial director for Latin America and general manager for Brazil, said in a statement.
