Helicos BioSciences’ director of bioinformatics business development, Kristen Stoops, left the company in July. She has joined Rosetta Biosoftware, where she is senior director of strategic marketing and alliances.
 

 
NuGen Technologies has hired Daniel Benetz as chief financial officer and Yan Zhang as vice president of marketing, a new position.
 
Benetz was previously senior director of business finance, European finance director, and director of corporate financial planning and analysis at Affymetrix. He holds a degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
 
Zhang held strategic marketing and product management roles at Affymetrix, Molecular Devices, and Hyseq. He has a doctorate in biochemistry from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and an undergraduate degree from Beijing University.
 

 

Craig Venter and James Watson are two of the recipients of this year’s Double Helix Medal from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. They received the medal for making their individual genome sequences available for scientific use and for promoting awareness of the possible public health advantages of personalized genomes.
