Illumina, Epicentre, Integrated DNA Technologies

Illumina has launched two applications that use the company’s Genome Analyzer to generate genome-wide sequencing-based expression profiles of messenger RNA and small RNA. The so-called Digital Gene Expression applications have been in early-access testing since February, the company said.
Digital Gene Expression for Tag Profiling can generate profiles for “any transcript from any gene in any organism,” and offers better sensitivity than serial analysis by gene expression, the company said.
Digital Gene Expression for Small RNA Analysis can analyze up to four million small RNAs simultaneously in one sample.

Epicentre has released the BACMAX DNA Purification Kit, which isolates intact BAC DNA without binding columns, resins, or organic extractions. The BAC DNA is suitable for many applications, including sequencing, fingerprinting, PCR, and preparation of shotgun libraries, the company said. The protocol is based on a modified alkaline-lysis procedure that typically yields 0.6 micrograms to 25 micrograms of BAC DNA from a 1.5 ml to 100 ml culture of a single-copy BAC.

Integrated DNA Technologies has launched the miRCat small RNA cloning system, which allows researchers to create libraries of small RNAs, including miRNAs, piRNAs and endogenous siRNAs, from any primary RNA source. The system is compatible with most standard laboratory protocols for processes such as RNA extraction, purification, and cloning, the company said.
