ATCC, One Codex Partner on Microbiome Research Tools

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – ATCC and One Codex announced today that they have partnered to offer a portfolio of microbiome research tools.

Called ATCC Microbiome Research Solutions, the portfolio includes nucleic acid and whole-cell standards, which can be utilized in 16S and whole-genome sequencing, the partners said. Customers will be able to upload next-generation sequencing data directly to One Codex's bioinformatics platform and receive a scorecard analysis of their ATCC microbiome standards.

Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Packaging our standards with the One Codex platform adds powerful, differentiating analytics that will help move microbiome research towards standardization," Joseph Leonelli, vice president of ATCC's microbiology and government solutions business, said in a statement.

"We remain focused on our efforts under the White House's National Microbiome Initiative to enable researchers to work with massive-scale microbiome datasets and reliably compare samples within and across studies," One Codex Founder and CEO Nick Greenfield added.

About a year ago, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy launched the National Microbiome Initiative as a collaboration of government agencies and private companies to research microbiomes across different ecosystems. As a part of the initiative, One Codex said it was launching a public portal to make microbiome data accessible to researchers, clinicians, and other health professionals.
