454 to Expand Manufacturing Space

Premium

Roche's 454 Life Sciences is expanding into new manufacturing space, a company official told In Sequence last month.

The official did not provide any further details about the expansion, but according to a report in the Hartford Courant, 454 plans to invest $5 million into a 55,400-square-foot industrial building in Branford, Conn., its current location, "to outfit it for research and development." The newspaper cited commercial real estate brokers as its source.

The expansion plans coincide with 454's announcement late last year that it plans to launch a new sequencing instrument, called GS Junior, in the spring or early summer (see In Sequence 12/1/2009).
