A US federal judge ruled against Ohio State University professor Carlo Croce this week, Retraction Watch reports.
Croce, a cancer researcher at OSU, has been plagued by allegations of research misconduct, details of which were described in a 2017 New York Times article. Retraction Watch notes Croce has had 10 papers retracted.
Following the appearance of that article, Croce sued the Times for defamation — a case he later largely lost — and then filed a suit against OSU when it forced him out as department chair.
As Retraction Watch reports, Croce also sued Purdue University professor David Sanders, who was quoted in that Times article, for defamation. In it, Sanders said he uncovered evidence of data falsification or plagiarism within articles Croce co-authored. He also spoke to the Lafayette Journal & Courier about the issue.
The judge in this case, Judge James Graham from the Southern District of Ohio Eastern Division, has now ruled against Croce, according to Retraction Watch.
