Some people who take direct-to-consumer genetic tests receive surprising results, such as that their dad wasn't their biological father, but as Fox10 in Phoenix reports, a Facebook-based support group has popped up to help people cope.
For instance, Beth Renfro tells Fox10 that she discovered that her biological father was her mother's boss, while Lynn Henderson learned she had a half-sister with whom she shared a father who was not her dad. "Never in a million years did I dream I'd find out my dad was not my biological father," Henderson tells the TV station. "It shook me to the core. My dad was my best friend, my rock, my foundation. He raised me from when I was 13."
The support group, the members say, provides a place to work through the upheaval and pain of "Not Parent Expected" results with others who are going through similar experiences.
