New Startup from Avey

Linda Avey, co-founder of 23andMe who left the firm in 2009, has launched a new startup with Aneil Mallavarapu, TechCrunch reports.

The goal of their new company, called Precise.ly, is to gather and analyze genetic information from populations that haven't had much access to such services, according to TechCrunch. The firm is in particular focusing on India and has partnered with Narayana Health, a specialty hospital network in India, to bring personal genomics there, it adds.

"Precise.ly's mission is to deliver validated genetic insights to the billions of people living outside the western world. We're initially focused on India where there are urgent health issues readily addressable through access to personal genomic data," Avey says in a statement, according to TechCrunch. "Our partnership with Narayana is vital to delivering on the promise of precise, data-driven health."

Narayana's Devi Prasad Shett says he hopes the partnership will enable the hospital build a stem cell donor registry to help patients who need transplants, TechCrunch adds.
