As part of the newly announced National Innovation and Science Agenda, the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is to receive $166 million, ScienceInsider reports.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced his AUS$1 billion agenda yesterday, calling it an 'ideas boom.' The move, ScienceInsider adds, has been welcomed by Australian researchers and contrasts with previous cuts made by former Prime Minister Tony Abbott's government. The Australian Academy of Science's Secretary for Science Policy Les Fields, for instance, calls it a "turning point."
The overall agenda includes two dozen initiatives, which are intended to address the future of research infrastructure, bolster science, technology, and engineering in schools, and grow collaborations between governmental research agencies and industry.
