As they swim, slither, and otherwise make their way through and live in water, fish, amphibians, and other species leave bits of their DNA behind. As the Associated Press reports, biologists are taking environmental samples to gauge whether certain species — elusive ones like Chinook salmon or unwanted ones like New Zealand mudsnails — are present.
