Ambion has recently introduced the mirVana qRT-PCR miRNA detection kit and primer sets.

According to the company, the kits can be used to characterize miRNA expression via traditional endpoint RT-PCR or real-time RT-PCR. The kit "can preferentially detect mature miRNA from as little as 25 pg of total RNA input … [and] exhibits linearity over at least 5 logs and can be used with either total RNA or miRNA-enriched RNA fractions, as well as degraded RNA samples," Ambion said.

Each kit contains sufficient reagents for 200 reactions, as well as a control primer set to amplify the ubiquitously expressed miR-24 and human heart total RNA.

The primer sets, Ambion said, include a primer for reverse transcription and a PCR primer pair optimized for sensitive detection of specific miRNAs by qRT-PCR.
