Miragen Therapeutics, a developer of microRNA-based therapeutics, announced that Thomas Hughes has been elected to its board of directors.

Hughes is currently CEO of Zafgen, a biopharmaceutical firm developing treatments for obesity. He previously held a number of roles at Novartis, most recently, vice president and global head of cardiovascular and metabolism disease.

He holds a PhD in nutrition from Tufts University and an MS in zoology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, according to Miragen.
