Frank Jellinek, Open Biosystems, Qiagen



Fisher Scientific said that Frank Jellinek, chairman emeritus, died in plane crash this week.

Jellinek was appointed chairman emeritus following the 2004 merger of Apogent Technologies and Fisher Scientific International. Prior to the merger, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of Apogent Technologies.



Open Biosystems announced this week the availability of its lentiviral microRNA-adapted shRNA library.

The library offers coverage for greater than 5,000 transcripts. Complete genome coverage is expected by mid-2006, the company said.

Qiagen has introduced the human validated kinase siRNA set version 1.0.

According to the company, the set is provided in 100-pmol, 0.25-nmol, or 1-nmol scales. Subsets for tyrosine kinases and serine/threonine kinases are also available.

Qiagen also released the whole human genome siRNA set version 1.0. This set contains siRNAs targeting more than 22,000 human genes.
