Galapagos said this week that it has named David Smith as its CFO effective Feb. 1, 2006.

Upon the arrival of Smith, the company said Vicky Gwosdz, currently head of finance, will continue as controller.

Smith comes to Galapagos from AstraZeneca, where he was marketing CFO, as well as a board member of AstraZeneca Dutch Holdings Group.

Mirus has recently introduced the Label It mRNA labeling kit.

According to the company, the kit can be used for the rapid and sensitive non-enzymatic labeling of miRNAs for microarray analysis. Each kit includes the miRNA Cy3 and Cy5 reagents, as well as additional buffers and reagents required for labeling reactions. This kit also contains a 1x hybridization solution. Reagents required for sample preparation and sample purification are not included, Mirus noted.

Invitrogen said this week that it has launched the Stealth RNAi human kinase collection.

The company said the collection contains 636 human kinase targets with two individual non-overlapping Stealth RNAi duplexes per target.
