Research Technician- Beyaz & Meyer Labs

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory invites applications for a Joint Research Technician in the laboratories of Dr. Hannah Meyer ( and Dr. Semir Beyaz.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of computational and experimental scientists to study the development of the immune system and its interactions with stem cells and microbiomes in response to diet and obesity. The lab technician will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators and the main responsibility will be to manage the labs’ mouse colonies, including managing breedings, tracking all animals, genotyping, and assigning animals to specific investigators within the lab. They will also be responsible for managing and purchasing necessary supplies and reagents.

Additional responsibilities may include: performing standard laboratory procedures such as maintaining cell cultures; staining tissue section slides using standard techniques; performing assays for protein, RNA or DNA; and dissociation of mouse tissues and tumor.

EDUCATION: BS/BA in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry or related life science discipline is required.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Experience in any of the following techniques would be advantageous: working with mice (including handling, colony maintenance, and record keeping), standard molecular and cell biology techniques including cell culture, biochemical assays such as western blotting and immunoprecipitation, microscopy and flow cytometry. Experience with next gen sequencing is preferred. The candidate should be willing to commit at least 2 years to this position, and possess excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills; the willingness and ability to work independently and take initiative; and a strong sense of integrity.

  • Support clinical trial activities, including preparation of study materials and training of study personnel.

  • Contribute to the generation of general protocols, reports, and publications.
  • With training and coaching, increase understanding of histology and pathology, especially with regard to Oncology and relevant Biomarkers.
  • Participate in product care activities as needed.
