The goal of the NeuroAI Program is to use insights from neuroscience to catalyze the development of next-generation AI, rather than to apply AI to better understand neuroscience. The history of AI is closely intertwined with that of neuroscience, notably inspiring the development of convolutional neural networks and reinforcement learning. The CSHL NeuroAI program builds on CSHL’s strengths in theoretical, computational, and experimental neuroscience in areas including neural circuits, rodent cognition, perception, social behavior, neural development, neurogenetics, synaptic function, and brain disorders.

During the internship, you will work alongside mentors and peers in the NeuroAI Program to pursue a research project where you design, implement, and evaluate novel models/agents. You will learn about modern neuroscience from world-class faculty and through guided and independent study, and interact with the advisory board (https://www.cshl.edu/research/neuroscience/neuroa…). You will have opportunities to report and present research findings, internally and externally, verbally and in writing.

The ideal candidate will have strong theoretical and practical experience in modern AI, as well as an interest in neuroscience, but formal experience in neuroscience is not required. CSHL is dedicated to building and maintaining a diverse work environment. New York City is 1 hour away by train, providing a vibrant mix of museums, music and arts venues, scenic spots, restaurants, and bars.

          Duration:

This internship has a target 12-week duration starting in May or June.

Candidates from non-traditional and/or underrepresented backgrounds, broadly defined, are strongly encouraged to apply.

You are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition to your employment at the Laboratory, except in instances where you have a qualifying medical condition or sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance that is contrary to receiving the vaccine. You will be required to provide proof of your vaccination on your first day of employment. For those individuals, who are unable to receive a vaccine due to access issues, they will be expected to receive the vaccine upon arrival in New York.
