The American College of Medical Genetics has appointed Anthony Gregg as president-elect, Laurie Demmer as clinical genetics director, Elaine Lyon as laboratory molecular genetics director, and Catherine Rehder as laboratory cytogenetics director. It has also appointed Gregg, Demmer, Lyon, and Rehder to its board of directors. Gregg is currently the professor and chief of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Florida. He also serves as the director of obstetrics at UF Health and program director of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship. Demmer is a clinical geneticist and associate pediatric residency program director at Levine Children's Hospital/Carolinas Health Care. Lyon is currently a tenured professor of pathology at the University of Utah and serves as chair of the departmental academic committee responsible for the department's faculty appointment. Rehder is currently the director of Duke University's Cytogenetics Laboratory and associate director of the Duke Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.

Nicolas Barthelemy, Carlos Paya

Fluidigm said this week that it has appointed Nicolas Barthelemy and Carlos Paya to its board of directors. Barthelemy most recently served as president and CEO of molecular diagnostics firm Biotheranostics. He previously was president of global commercial operations at Life Technologies and also had led the Cell Systems division at that firm. He also serves on the board of directors of Repligen. Paya is president, CEO, and director of immunotherapy firm Immune Design. He formerly served as president of pharmaceutical firm Elan, and was VP of Lilly Research Laboratories.

Elizabeth Jaffe

The American Association for Cancer Research has elected Elizabeth Jaffe as its president for 2017-2018. Jaffe is currently a chair and member of the National Cancer Advisory Board for the National Cancer Institute, and co-chair of the NCI Blue Ribbon Panel for the National Cancer Moonshot Initiative. She is also the deputy director of the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University, the associate director of the Bloomberg-Kimmel Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, professor of oncology and professor of pathology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and an active staff member in oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

David Heckerman

David Heckerman has joined Human Longevity as chief data scientist. He will report to Co-Founder Craig Venter and will lead a team analyzing large-scale medical and genomic data. Heckerman comes to HLI from Microsoft, where he worked for more than 25 years. He led that company's first research team focused on machine learning and helped produce the first content-based spam filter. More recently, he led Microsoft Genomics, including Microsoft's cloud computing services for genomics. Heckerman has held adjunct faculty and visiting scholar positions at a number of institutions, including the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Washington, and Columbia University. He holds a medical degree and a doctorate in computer science, both from Stanford University.

Samraat Raha

Agilent Technologies has named Samraat Raha senior VP of strategy and corporate development. Raha will report directly to Agilent President and CEO Mike McMullen. His duties will include advising the firm's executive team and developing its global growth strategy, including for mergers and acquisitions. Raha joins Agilent from Illumina, where was VP of global marketing. He also served as VP and general manager of genomic assays at Life Technologies, where he helmed the TaqMan and qPCR product lines.

Koh Boon Hwee

Agilent Technologies has appointed Koh Boon Hwee as chairman of the board of directors. Boon Hwee has been a member of the company's board since 2003, and replaces James Cullen who served as chairman since 2005. Cullen will continue to serve on the board as a director. Boon Hwee is the managing director of Credence Capital Fund II and serves as the non-executive chairman to Sunningdale Tech. Seven Bridges Scientific Advisory Board

Seven Bridges has appointed James Knight, Jan Korbel, Charles Lee, Heng Li, Gholson Lyon, and Gokhan Hotamisligil to its newly formed scientific advisory board. Knight is currently the director of bioinformatics and research scientists at The Knight Lab at Yale University. Korbel is the principal investigator and senior scientists at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. Lee is the scientific director and professor at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine. Li is a research scientists at the Broad Institute at MIT and Harvard, working with David Reich and David Altshuler to understand the genetic causes of disease. Lyon is the head of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory's Lyon Lab and a research scientist at the Utah Foundation for Biomedical Research. Hotamisligil is the James S. Simmons professor of genetics and metabolism and chair of the department of genetics and complex diseases at Harvard University's School of Public Health.

Ken Tarkoff

Syapse has appointed Ken Tarkoff as its CEO. Tarkoff was chief operating officer for RelayHealth and served as senior vice president and general manager of the firm after it was acquired by McKesson. Before his time at RelayHealth, Tarkoff served as director of supplier services at Xign Corporation.
