Bioo NextPrep-Mag cfDNA Isolation Kit

Bioo Scientific has launched the NextPrep-Mag cfDNA Isolation Kit for liquid biopsy and noninvasive prenatal testing. The kit extracts cell free DNA using a magnetic bead format. The 25-minute extraction is compatible with automation, does not require a vacuum manifold, and yields enough cfDNA from 600 microliters of plasma to enable robust production of DNA-Seq libraries.

Analytik Jena's TAdvanced Thermal Cycler

Analytik Jena has launched the TAdvanced thermal cycler with silver block. The thermal cycler features ramping rates of up to 8 °C/s, while its silver block provides excellent heat conductivity, enabling fast equilibration to temperature transitions and energy transfer into samples, the company said. This high heat conductivity also leads to a temperature uniformity of ±0.15 °C at 55 °C, the company added.

Belgian bioinformatics firm Diploid has launched a beta version of Differ, a free application for OS X that lets users view, search, split, or merge VCF files easily. Interested users can download the app directly from Diploid's website, try it out, and provide feedback that will be used to improve future iterations of the app.

BioJava 4.0.0

BioJava 4.0.0 is available here. The release includes changes to the core application programming interface such as an improved GenBank parser and support for feature records, qualifiers, and nested locations. It also offers better support for crystallographic information, better organization of downloaded structure files, a new algorithm for symmetry detection in biological asesemblies, and other updates.

New England Biolabs' NEBuilder HiFi DNA Assembly Cloning Kit and Master Mix

New England Biolabs has introduced its NEBuilder HiFi DNA Assembly Cloning Kit and Master Mix for one-step cloning and multiple DNA fragment assembly in as little as 15 minutes. The proprietary DNA polymerase in the NEBuilder HiFi enzyme mix results in extremely accurate fragment assemblies and cloning junctions, and can assemble DNA fragments ranging from 100 bp to at least 19 kb, NEB said.

Promega's PowerPlex Fusion 6C System

Promega has released the PowerPlex Fusion 6C System for forensic casework samples. The PowerPlex Fusion 6C is a six-color, 27-locus multiplex system. It combines common and informative loci to overcome typical challenges faced by laboratories, including sample inhibitors, low levels of input DNA, degradation, and mixtures, Promega said. Two rapidly-mutating Y-STR loci, DYS570 and DYS576, are included in the multiplex for improved mixture interpretation, the firm said, and the system offers rapid-cycling protocols of approximately one hour.

Bibby Brand Techne's Prime Pro 48 qPCR System

Techne, a Bibby Scientific brand, has launched the Prime Pro 48, a qPCR system that uses a 48-well PCR plate and supports 4-color mulitplex reactions. The platform has a fast ramp rate and short cycling time, and is associated with 400 lyophilized qPCR detection kits covering clinical and veterinary applications as well as food and biohazard testing.

New England Biolabs NEBNext DNA Repair Mix

New England Biolabs has introduced the NEBNext DNA Repair Mix, a cocktail of DNA repair enzymes designed to help repair and sequence DNA from archival formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples. The repaired DNA is compatible with any dosntream application or sequencing platform, NEB said. Together with its NEBNext line of next-generation sequencing library preparation reagents, NEB now offers a complete solution for preparing DNA from FFPE samples for sequencing on both the Illumina and Ion Torrent sequencing platforms, the company added.

Genome Workbench 2.8.10 and Conserved Domain Database 3.13

The National Center for Biotechnology Information has released Genome Workbench 2.8.10. The release includes several bug fixes and improvements, added support for Ubuntu 14.04, and it automatically saves and restores projects as well as windows positions. 

The NCBI has also released version 3.13 of the Conserved Domain Database (CDD). The updated version of the database includes 286 new or updated NCBI-curated domains and 50,415 total domain models from the CDD's database providers.

Appistry's CloudDx Translational Software

Appistry has launched Appistry CloudDX Translational, a new targeted solution for trasnlational research based on a system that was developed and is in use at the National Institutes of Health's Undiagnosed Diseases program.

According to the company, the solution provides clinical research centers with over 80 preconfigured workflows from the Undiagnosed Diseases Program Integrated Collaboration system, which is an analysis pipeline for exploring family pedigrees. The list includes tools for sample management, phenotype collection, and next-generation sequence analysis.

SoftGenetics' NextGene Software

SoftGenetics has released a new version of its NextGene software, which is used for analyzing  data from Illumina and Ion Torrent sequencers.

This release includes a new somatic mutation comparison tool, which reduces false positives when performing somatic mutation analysis by up to 70 percent; an HLA analysis module that matches sample reads to a dictionary reference file with allele-specific sequences for targeted HLA genes; and it also includes enhancements to the copy number variation analysis module. Other updates include a new user management module and a new clinical relevance filter.

Biocept Liquid Biopsy ROS1 Assay

Biocept announced it has launched a blood-based ROS1 rearrangement test for non-small cell lung cancer patients. The assay, which will be performed at the firm's CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory, detects ROS1 rearrangements in circulating tumor cells in order to determine if NSCLC patients might benefit from molecularly targeted drugs.

Bioo Scientific's NEXTflex 18S ITS Amplicon-Seq Kit

Bioo Scientific has launched its NEXTflex 18S ITS Amplicon-Seq Kit. According to the firm, it simplifies the preparation of multiplexed amplicon libraries spanning the ITS1 and ITS2 hypervariable regions of eukaryotic 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes to permit the fast and cost-effective characterization of uncultured fungal and micro-eukaryotic organisms. Bioo added that the kit provides up to 384 multiplexing barcodes, which could reduce the cost of 18S ITS NGS studies on the Illumina MiSeq platform.

ChemAxon has launched its Biomolecule Toolkit, which provides tools that enable scientists represent and query complex biological molecules within their information systems. The tool supports custom formats for representing biological molecules as well as standard formats such as OpenHELM. It is available for integration within enterprise research informatics platforms and will soon include suppor for ChemAxon's Plexus suite web collaboration platform.

UCSC Genome Browser's Peptide Atlas Track

The Genome Browser group at the University of California, Santa Cruz has added a track for human proteome data from the Peptide Atlas. The track conains data from 971 samples and more than 420 million spectra. It offers access to over a million distinct peptides covering more than 15,000 canonical proteins.

Ensembl Genomes 25

Ensembl Genomes 25 is now available here.

This release includes a new fruitfly assembly and an updated wheat assembly. It also includes new variation datasets for barley as well as new assemblies and gene annotation data for two plant pathogens. Also available are sequences from the RNAcentral resource.
