Horizon Discovery's Synthetic Plasma cfDNA Reference Standard

Horizon Discovery Group has launced a new tool it calls the HDx cell-free DNA Reference Standard in Synthetic Plasma. According to the company, the new reference set adresses challenges in extracting DNA for liquid biopsy testing, helping to insure that an assay is not over or under loaded, and allowing users to better control varaition in their tests.

The set contains eight cancer-relevant mutations including BRAF, EGFR, KRAS, NRAS, and PIK3CA at 5%, 1%, and 0.1% allelic frequencies. Becayse the reference is engineered in plasma, mimicking actual human material, users can gain better understanding of assay performance from extraction and quantification through to analysis and informatics, Horizon said.

Cofactor Genomics Pinnacle Assay

Cofactor Genomics has launched Pinnacle, an RNA-based oncology assay which provides insight into a patient's cancer profile. The assay reports on both aberrant oncology-relevant gene expression and known cancer gene fusions detected in the tumor sample. It uses the company's software to compare each patient's cancer expression profile to Cofactor's database of thousands of expression profiles from the same cancer type, the company said. Pinnacle is currently approved for use with formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue.
