Mo Bio Laboratories has launched the NoviPure Microbial Protein kit, for the isolation of total cellular proteins from microbial cultures in a quick and user-friendly spin filter format. The kit features an optimized bead beating method which enables efficient lysis and solubilization of total proteins from a large diversity of microbial species including fungi, gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. The silica spin filters achieve reversible immobilization of proteins — a patent-pending technical advance in protein extraction — greatly simplifies the isolation process by removing traditional cumbersome and bias-inducing precipitation steps.

Episona's Seed

Episona has launched its male fertility test, Seed. The test is the first of its kind on the market, and measures epigenetic changes in DNA to predict the risk for male factor infertility and poor embryo development. According to the company, while male factors contribute to about half of the cases of infertility in couples, testing options for men have been lacking.

A laboratory-developed test, Seed has a turnaround time of about two weeks. Physiicans receive a detailed report on patients' likelihood of contributing to infertility and poor embry development. This information can then help both the physician and patient understand whether a couple should spend time and money pursing less invasive procedures such as intrauterine insemination or move directly to in vitro fertilization. By detecting issues that could impact sperm’s role in embryo development, Seed results can also help identify problems that might occur with IVF and provide answers if an IVF cycle fails, the company said.

Fluxion Biosciences' Spotlight 59

Fluxion Biosciences has launched its Spotlight 59 Oncology Panel, a next-gen sequencing-based assay designed specifically for liquid biopsy analyses. Used in conjunction with Fluxion's IsoFlux Liquid Biopsy System the new panel allows a complete sample-to-answer assay for high sensitivity mutation detection of solid tumor cancers from blood samples, the company said. In allowing ultra-sensitive variant detection from low input quantities of DNA, the panel is also potentially useful not only for for liquid biopsy samples like circulating tumor cells or cell-free DNA, but also other challenging sample types such as FFPE. 

For liquid biopsies, the high sensitivity of the panel, driven by a statstically driven bioinformatics method called ERASE-Seq, allows sensitivity to 0.1 percent allele frequency with no false positives, Fluxion said. The panel, using a 277-amplicon design based on Swift Biosciences Accel-Amplicon chemistry, covers hotspots in 59 clinically-relevant oncology-related genes, generating multiplex libraries compatible with Illumina sequencing platforms, without the need for complicated molecular barcodes.

DEPArray OncoSeek Panel And DEPArray LibPrep Kit

Menarini-Silicon Biosystems and Swift Biosciences have collaborated to develop and launch the DEPArray OncoSeek Panel and the DEPArray LibPrep Kit. Both products were developed to prepare and analyze tumor cells derived from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples. The LibPrep kit will allow researchers to build complex NGS libraries from a few hundred FFPE cells that contain low amounts of damaged and fragmented DNA, the company said. The OncoSeek panel will allow simultaneous analysis of sequence variants and copy number alterations focused on cancer-associated genes, and employs a streamlined single tube 2-hour reaction, generating reliable ready-to-sequence Illumina-compatible libraries, the company said.

PerkinElmer NEXTflex Custom Amplicon Panels

PerkinElmer has launched several new NEXTflex Custom Amplicon panels.The panels analyze BRCA1/2, CEBPA, HBOC-3, MEFV, TP53, and specific genes related to colon cancer, diabetes, and nephrotic syndrome. They can also detect somatic mutations in BRCA1/2 and TP53 loci. The panels offer a cost-effective solution for on-target reads with 100 percent coverage of targeted regions, the company said.

Personal Genome Diagnostics has launched RNAcomplete, a new testing service that allows researchers to co-extract total RNA and genomic DNA from a single tissue sample. The testing service uses RNA-seq to analyze gene transcripts corresponding to more than 34,000 genes and 84,000 transcript isoforms. It has been optimized for maximum performance using FFPE tissue and employs a macrodissection process for improved sensitivity and specificity, the company said.

The kit uses a three minute two step system to prepare DNA from fresh or frozen whole blood samples for use in in vitro diagnostic applications. Qiagen has launched QIAscout, a novel instrument for isolation of of viable single cells from samples for downstream applications. It uses the company's technology includes a high-density array with 12.000 microcrafts that can be used to isolate and recover individual cells from a cell suspension. QIAscout works with standard inverted microscopes to reliably select and release isolated single cells. The instrument is the size of a hand-held mobile device.

SeraCare Life Sciences has launched the Seraseq Inherited Cardiomyopathy Reference Material, a multiplexed reference material for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) testing by next-generation sequencing. It was developed in collaboration with Birgit Funke, director of clinical research and development at the Partners Healthcare Laboratory for Molecular Medicine. NanoString Technologies has launched two new translational research assays, nCounter Vantage 3D DNA (SNV) Solid Tumor panel and nCounter Vantage 3D Protein Solid Tumor Signaling Pathways panel. The nCounter Vantage 3D DNA (SNV) Solid Tumor panel is designed for highly multiplexed profiling of known cancer mutations, as well as insertion and deletions from as little as five nanograms of DNA, while the nCounter Vantage 3D Solid Tumor Signaling Pathways panel enables the identification of activation state through the measurement of total proteins and phosphoproteins from a single slice of FFPE tissue or form as little as 250 ng of protein from cell or tissue lysate. 10X Genomics has launched the Chromium Single Cell Controller, a massively scalable tool for comprehensive single cell analysis. The instrument can interrogate hundreds to millions of cells, and features a simple and comprehensive workflow which enables users to quickly and easily prepare single cell sequencing libraries in less than one workday, the company said.
