Position Summary

PNI is looking for a high caliber Technician or Senior Technician with a passion for lab work to join our growing Research and Development department. The candidate, under supervision by R&D Scientists, will be responsible for testing and optimization of new and existing nanoparticle technologies and technology development for the NanoAssemblr platform. They will design, perform and troubleshoot experiments with appropriate controls and employ a wide-range of chemical and biochemical techniques. They will assist in the analysis of data as well as the reporting of experimental results through reports and internal presentations. This role contributes to the general functioning of the R&D department and laboratory, and the continued quality standards of laboratory work set by PNI.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for designing and executing experiments with input from supervisor, including establishing novel technologies in-house 

  • Collect data from each experiment, calculate results of research studies and record information appropriately 

  • Troubleshoot experiments and identify abnormal or unexpected trends in data 

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation for product development
  • Set up, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized laboratory equipment
  • Present data at meetings, provide conclusions and outline future plans
  • Provides technical support and training to PNI staff and customers (product use, protocols) 

  • Ensure that the necessary laboratory supplies are available and perform tasks related to support operation of the laboratory
  • Maintain established laboratory policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested


Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field
  • More than 2 years relevant experience performing independent laboratory research including co-op
  • Previous research experience in the life sciences industry would be a major asset
  • Hands-on experience in an area related to nanoparticle/nanomedicine development, drug delivery systems, or lipid and polymer formulation sciences
  • Familiar with a broad range of analytical techniques including microscopy, HPLC, UV-VIS, SEM, TEM, DLS and zeta-potential
  • A good understanding of biological systems would be an asset
  • Documented ability to independently design, conduct, analyze and troubleshoot experiments 

  • Experience with statistical analyses of experimental data is an asset 

  • Proven ability to apply critical and analytical thinking 

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) both in one-on-one and in a group
setting with the ability to present and deliver high level and technical summaries of scientific data 

  • Must be a resourceful, proactive, detail oriented individual who is able to work with
minimum supervision 

  • The individual must be a team player who thrives in a dynamic environment with multiple tasks and aggressive deadlines
