About the Institute

We are a group of 130 scientists from more than 40 nations situated in a beautiful, bright and perfectly designed building (inaugurated in 2011). We have state-of-the-art technologies and are neighbours with one of the largest research hospitals in Europe. Vienna is a fascinating capital city, with world-leading quality of life, and legendary music and culture. CeMM has been voted best place to work in academia in a 2012 survey of The Scientist, is an equal opportunity employer, and our official working language at CeMM is English.

CeMM has an established internationally-recognised track record in: (i) systems biology/network interactomics; (ii) pathogen interactomics; (iii) chemical proteomics; and (iv) chemical biology screening as evidenced by many publications in high-ranking international journals such as Nature and Cell. In addition, the experience and knowledge of the Principal Investigators at CeMM is exceptional in posing fundamental biological questions and application of these questions in a medically relevant setting. Within our short institute life, and based on our super-cooperative research model and –omic technologies, we have identified the missing cancer gene in myeloproliferative neoplasms (Klampfl et al NEJM 2013), a new cancer pathway with a new drug (Huber et al. Nature 2014), and the molecular basis for acute macular degeneration (Weissmann et al Nature 2011).

The Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility

The mass spectrometry laboratory space was designed to the highest standards when the group relocated to the new CeMM building on the medical campus. To operate under optimal conditions in an analytical-suitable environment, each machine resides in individual cubicles that are maintained at constant temperature and humidity. Minimal downtime is assured via remote surveillance whereby the performance of the systems can be consistently monitored. Proteomics is well-established and routine but in addition, it is our goal to integrate a metabolomic component that will be fully-operational within the next 18 months.

We offer

+      an interesting position in a meaningful, inspiring, international setting

+      an excellent work climate and the opportunity to join our social (cultural or sports) activities

+      comprehensive health insurance and additional company health care

+      a competitive salary: This position is remunerated according to the salary scale of the Austrian Science Fund with a minimum yearly (gross) salary of € 31,000,- on a full time base

+      a daily bonus for the in-house cafeteria
