Job Description

The Synthetic Biology Technician performs basic preparatory and organizational work as well as basic manufacturing functions for the production of synthetic biology products. This position also aides the department with general laboratory cleaning and maintenance as scheduled or assigned.

Job Specific Essential Functions:

  • Maintains accurate and detailed product and instrument records
  • Maintains inventory control by performing appropriate transactions and periodic product and inventory disposition
  • Uses a variety of lab equipment to process products
  • Complies with the requirements for an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 environment
  • Adheres to safety regulations, lab SOPs and contamination controls
  • Performs routine maintenance, cleaning and decontamination of equipment and work spaces
  • Communicates with all levels of peers and management
  • Maintains electronic records of tasks performed
  • Uses computers and a variety of custom software in a windows based environment
  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree preferred


  • Proficiency in a variety of PC software programs with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Previous laboratory and chemical handling experience preferred
  • Experience with sterile techniques preferred
