Job Description

The Staff Scientist will support Dr. Berens research activities through supervision of laboratory personnel, experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis and interpretation, as well as development of reports, abstracts, presentations, manuscripts, and grant proposals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide scientific, technical, and laboratory input to projects directly within the CCB Division Director’s scope of research.  Essentially, function as a right-hand executive extension of the Division Director in respect to his laboratory research.  This may involve supervisory as well as technical execution at the research bench.

Assess, critique, and recommend research approaches in thematic areas of domain expertise which contribute to the timely, effective, and incisive scientific experiments under the Division Director’s scope of research.

Support the Division Director’s scientific and professional pursuits in respect to data, analysis, communication, and assembly of research grant applications, manuscripts, powerpoint presentations, and other forms of research output.

Exercise advancement (state-of-the-art technology and practices), oversight, and management of up to 2 designated scientific and/or technological platforms in the CCB Division which serve as collaborative or shared resources for the institute’s faculty.

Other tasks as assigned by the Division Director.


Ph.D. / M.D.

Minimum 1 Year postdoctoral professional experience required.
