Genetic Sciences Division, R&D

How will you make an impact?
You will be working with a dynamic cross functional team of engineers and scientists to develop exciting new genetic analysis instruments and supporting equipment. You will design, develop, test and integrate mechanical and fluidic assemblies, seeing them through from prototype to manufacture.

What will you do?
• Support the newly introduced equipment by assisting field service and manufacturing personnel in troubleshooting and root cause investigations
• Assess new technologies and incorporate them the design of analytical instruments


How will you get here?
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

• 7+ years mechanical design experience developing analytical instruments and processing equipment for life sciences
• Hands on development of successful products and issued patents
• Demonstrated ability to develop complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, fluidic (macro and microfluidics), automation assemblies and the integration of these systems
• Experience with 3-D CAD package such as SolidWorks and ability to create manufacturing drawings and documentation with practical knowledge of general drafting practices and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME/ANSI standards
• Project planning and cost forecasting is desirable
• Previous experience in advanced modeling techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and / or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is desirable

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Familiarity with genomic cell biology and various PCR techniques is preferred
• Good understanding of packaging mechanical, and electronic assemblies and familiarity with UL/CE/TUV regulations and EMI reduction
• Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex systems including mechanism, fluidics, thermocycling, and optics
• Knowledge of DFMEA/DFM/DFS, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and be well versed in various fabrication techniques including casting, plastic injection molding, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, as well traditional machining methods
• Ability to work with team members across disciplines as well as excellent trouble-shooting skills, creative thinker and a positive attitude
