Job Description

Programmable DNA, the software of life, is finally here! Twist Bioscience is developing a disruptive Synthetic DNA technology that will change the world, enabling widespread health and sustainability. Synthetic biologists will use our products to engineer how organisms produce cures to diseases, everyday chemicals are made using the atmosphere as the carbon source, plants make their own fertilizers, in-vivo diagnostics will alert us when we are sick, and many more applications. Twist is located in Mission Bay, San Francisco’s biotech epicenter. 

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to lead our Process Engineering projects. As a member of the DNA process engineering team, your primary responsibility will be to support the backend hardware necessary for the production of synthetic DNA. You will be responsible for inventing, developing and managing processes involved with nanoliter liquid handling, thermocycling, and purification of synthetic DNA.  Specific responsibilities include: (1) Developing liquid handling systems for nanoliter amounts of synthetic DNA,  (2) Developing and testing software for integrated hardware, (3) Operation of a range of scientific instruments and tools, and (4) Developing documentation and training instrument operators.



Required Experience:

  • Experience with developing instrument SW for robotic systems
  • Experience with common biology instrumentation such as PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis
  • Managing and developing automated liquid handling hardware
  • Data analysis and data visualization capabilities (tableau)


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with optics and lasers
  • Cell culture hardware support
  • Labview and C++ programming skills
  • Electronic design and debugging skills
