Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for Areas such as research, development, and design of fluidic and mechanical systems and components related to existing and new product development, creating documentation, i.e., drawings, BOM’s, ECO’s etc., as required, supporting Manufacturing, Field Service, Customer Service, and other departments with respect to existing products, designing opto-mechanical and mechanical assemblies, and creating models and analysis using 2D or 3D CAD packages.
 

Key Responsibilities & Duties:
 

 Project management tasks may be required, including schedule creation/maintenance and supervision of other engineers and technicians

 Strives to make continuous quality improvements

 Other duties as assigned.
 

Education and Experience:
 

 Bachelor level science or engineering degree and at least 8 years of experience in a related field desired.

 Proficiency with word processing software packages

 Proficiency with the Solidwork, Simulation, and Flow Simulation software

 Well-developed interview skills

 Well-developed communication skills

 Well-developed ability to manage projects and people
 

Training, Skills and Certifications/Licenses:
 

 Where applicable according to job responsibilities, one or more of the following competency criteria will be required from the Hardware Research and Development personnel:

 Familiarity with the current versions of applicable company policies and procedures (all)

 Familiarity with the company’s document control system (all)

 Planning and scheduling skills for ensuring documents and drawings are reviewed and approved in a timeline consistent with project goals

 Ability to translate written product specifications into functional product designs
 

Work Conditions:
 

 Must work onsite at Luminex office

 Travel may be required at least 20% of the time

 Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment

 Frequent use of personal computer, copiers, printers, and telephones

 Frequent standing, walking, sitting, listening, and talking

 Frequent work under stress, as a team member, and in direct contact with others

 Ability to travel globally as required

 Possible exposure to Chemicals, Lasers, Excessive Noise, etc. 

 Physical Demands: All positions require standing, stooping, bending, climbing, sitting, kneeling, and lifting at least 10 lbs. Additional physical requirements are listed below:

o Pounds lifted (up to 20lbs)

o Vision (Color) on the job is required
