Job Description

The Sr. Manager, Strategic Marketing will be responsible for developing and setting global strategic direction for Luminex, and will provide leadership for market identification and analysis in support of Luminex’s corporate growth goals. The Sr. Manager, Strategic Marketing will work collaboratively with Executive Management, and with Product Marketing, Business Development, Corporate Strategy, Advanced Technology and other groups as required to develop, implement and drive adoption of strategic initiatives. The Sr. Manager, Strategic Marketing will also lead market research and Voice of Customer (VOC) programs for identified new market opportunities.


The Sr. Manager, Strategic Marketing will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage business intelligence activities including analyzing market trends, emerging technologies and competitor activities to identify opportunities for growth and enable effective business threat mitigation
  • Work with Business Development to identify and assess adjacent or emerging market opportunities
  • Lead cross-functional market research and VOC programs to assess unmet customer needs in new markets
  • Partner with Product Management to develop Customer Requirements for the product required to capture the new market opportunity
  • Partner with Business Development and R&D to develop or acquire the technologies required to successfully develop products to capture new market opportunities
  • Partner with Corporate Strategy to help set corporate strategy and execute to the strategic initiatives

Required Education/Training:

  • B.Sc. or higher degree in a related scientific field required; Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology or Genetics preferred
  • Business or Marketing degree preferred but not required

Required Certifications/License/Special Skills:

  • Demonstrated marketing performance excellence with portfolio planning; lifecycle management; communication planning; market research, segmentation and analytics; new product launches and corresponding collateral materials; and product development from concept/identified need thru commercialization.
  • Executive presence mandatory.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for building both internal and external relationships.

  • An overall competency level in analyzing market data and trends and preparing appropriate related reports.
  • Ability to manage team of individuals indirectly inclusive of product management, R&D, manufacturing, partnerships, regulatory/compliance, etc.

Required Work Experience:

  • 8-10 years’ experience in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or related industries is required.
  • Experience with market analysis and Voice of Customer primary research is required.
  • A proven track record of success in previous sales or marketing experience in a related diagnostic, medical device or pharmaceutical industry role.
  • Must have demonstrated track record of developing portfolio plans or corporate strategies.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and ability to tie detailed analysis to inform executive-level strategic decisions
  • Must have demonstrated effective collaboration in matrixed or highly cross-functional business settings.
  • Must have experience in successfully launching and managing products into clinical or research laboratory markets.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the global healthcare regulatory and reimbursement a plus.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of IVD development and commercialization process a plus
  • Diagnostic product marketing experience, preferably with understanding and knowledge of the US infectious disease diagnostics market, with strong experience developing customer and product requirements.
  • Preference for sales, sales management and business development experience.
  • A blend of entrepreneurial and large company experience; someone who has previously established and implemented effective marketing programs for a rapidly expanding business.


  • Must work onsite at Luminex office: 60%
  • Travel may be required approximately: 40%
  • International travel may be required approximately 10% of the time
