Job Title:  Senior Manager

Reports To:  VP, Genomics

Department:  Bioinformatics

Job Summary

Complete Genomics is looking for a leader of its expanding group of bioinformatics scientists to assist the development and application of methods and tools for complete genome sequence analysis.  The ideal candidate will possess a broad understanding of genomics, genetics and bioinformatics, have superior leadership and cross-functional communication skills, and be able to successfully manage complex projects and influence multi-disciplinary teams.                                                                              

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage Bioinformatics Scientists team to support company goals
  • Adapt and develop analysis approaches and software tools for the use of complete genome sequence
  • Interact with the research and development groups to implement new product offerings
  • Prototype data delivery and analysis tools for new products
  • Interact with sales, marketing and customers to understand and incorporate data utilization patterns into product development
  • Prototype and transfer genome analysis tools to sales and customer support as part of bringing new products to market
  • Comparative analysis of sequence data from multiple individuals

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Energetic and motivated self-starter
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude, ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving as well as communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated independent thought and judgment in developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria
  • Strong statistical analysis skills.  Experience with R ideal.
  • Previous experience manipulating and analyzing very large data sets essential.  Software skills appropriate for this analysis (shell scripting, Perl/Python, C/C++, SQL, etc.).
  • Advanced degree in CS, statistics, or bioinformatics (or biology or genetics, along with a very strong analytical background)
  • 8+ years of bioinformatics experience, 3 + years of management experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of key third party software platforms, tools and databases for sequence analysis a plus
  • Familiarity with common statistical and data mining techniques used in analyzing biological data a plus
