Job Description

To strengthen its High Performance Computing the Gregor Mendel Institute for Molecular Plant Biology is searching for a HPC Specialist. This position focuses on the supply and support of HPC systems in the scientific sector. It contains responsibilities in architecture, design, implementation and maintenance. Main duties and responsibilities: • Design and implementation of HPC software to be dispatched on massively parallel infrastructure • Supporting bioinformaticians and implement best HPC software engineering practices • HPC technology survey • In particular: the maintenance of GMI's HPC farm called MENDEL Essential skills and experiences required: • Professional experience in code design • Professional experience in administrering HPC scheduler and resource manager, • Very good familiarity in software development life-cycle, such as versioning (git), debugging, workflows, testing • Extensive experience using UNIX/Linux operating systems • Ability to perform research and solve problems independently • Good team player and fluent English in speech and writing Profile: • University degree or equivalent in computer science or related field with preferably years of experience • Experience with software design and maintenance of projects What we offer: • A modern and technologically advanced environment • An international and dynamic working environment, based at the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology located at the Vienna Biocenter, which encompasses both independent and academic research institutes as well as biotechnology • Salary range will be commensurate with experience at least € 65 000.- /pa.
