Job Description

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes, with over 600 scientists, students and support staff. We pioneer study into the most widespread diseases affecting our community today, including cancer, neurodegenerative and mental diseases, disorders of the immune system, diabetes and obesity, osteoporosis and other skeletal disorders. 

The Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics is the largest genome sequencing facility in the Southern Hemisphere. It features state-of-the-art sequencing, laboratory automation and high performance computing infrastructure, including the Illumina HiSeq X-Ten. The primary focus of KCCG is to produce and market a state-of-the-art genomic pathology service

With exponential growth of KCCG, there is now a need for a Software Commercialisation manager to focus on identifying and pursuing intellectual property commercialisation opportunities, derived from the bioinformatics and genomics facilities as part KCCG.

The successful candidate will be postdoctoral researcher with a background in life sciences with strong interest and capability in genomics, next generation sequencing; and developing commercial and intellectual property opportunities.

Requirements

Skills and Experience

  • in computer science or bioinformatics
  • Post-doctoral research with industry exposure or experience is highly desirable
  • Good knowledge and aptitude for business development and client relationship management
  • Ability to develop, manage and maintain internal and external relationships
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience in presenting technology opportunities to potential partners
  • Strong and confident presentation and facilitation skills
  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
