The Senior Staff Associate I, in the High-Throughput Screening Facility within the Judith P. Sulzberger Genome Center at the Columbia University Medical Center, will primarily be responsible for the execution of PLATESeq experiments within the lab. PLATESeq is the lab’s automated barcoding and pooling Next Gen Sequencing technology, which we used to profile small molecule activity. The candidate will also assist in performing High-Throughput Screening Assays, utilizing laboratory automation. Currently, the center features three automation pieces: the Cell::Explorer (Perkin Elmer), HighRes Bio, and a LabCyte Echo. In addition to the execution of assays the candidate will also perform routine quality assurance protocols to monitor lab automation performance and prevent systematic errors in our automated processes. Responsibilities also include but not limited to tracking consumable inventory, training users on basic instrument controls, and scheduling instrument usage between users/assays.
- 55%: Responsible for carrying out fully planned experiments utilizing laboratory automation.
- 20%: Preparing solutions and performing other related duties necessary to the functioning of the research project.
- 10%: Keeping records of experiment results.
- 10%: Running quality control experiments to insure instrumentation is in proper working order.
- 5%: Additional duties as requested.

- Assist Director in developing protocols, design instruments, develop applications in support of the project, as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate with collaborators and organize schedules.
- Explains complex information; collaborates with others to build consensus.
- Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of related work experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with facilities users and other members of the HTS core team
- Meticulous, attention to detail and focus on accuracy
- Well-organized and good time management skills.
- Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
- Experience with informatics a plus
