Job Description

As a Senior Scientist in Illumina’s Oncology Business Unit, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to help create sequencing based assays for clinical oncology applications. You will be responsible for the development of sample-to-report products for the diagnostic market. Job Responsibilities: • Initiate, direct and execute pre-regulatory scientific research and/or development through managing a small team or individual studies. • Take a leadership role in projects and guide technical areas independently. • Work closely with scientific, bioinformatics, engineering, software and commercial teams to develop, transfer, and sustain new products. • Write reports and present results and project assessments to Senior Management. • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skills and Experience: • PhD in cancer biology, genetics, molecular biology or related field. • 2+ years’ experience in commercial product development • DNA and/or RNA based genomic assay development with control materials and QC metrics • Must be able to design experiments and perform data analysis for others and have demonstrated experience in achieving results with team members in non-biological disciplines • Ability to translate corporate goals into executable plans understanding technical risks, mitigations and alternatives. • Highly motivated, detailed individual with the proven ability to think innovatively toward solving problems effectively and efficiently Preferred Skills and Experience • Experience with development for regulated markets and design controls highly desirable. • Experience with handling FFPE samples • Experience with transfer of new products to manufacturing and/or QC desired EOE/Minorities/Females/Vet/Disability
