Job Description

Organovo currently has an opening for a Senior Scientist specializing in drug discovery, toxicology and/ or pharmacology. The Senior Scientist will conceive, design, execute, analyze and interpret validation studies in already optimized 3D tissue models in support of the commercial business unit, with a particular emphasis on toxicological applications.   This position will work closely with both the R&D biology teams and the marketing/sales teams to ensure both an understanding of the tissue model characteristics and that the experimental design and analytical output meets the specific needs of the commercial business. 
  
Senior Scientist Responsibilities: 

•Conceives, designs, executes, analyzes and interprets validation studies in already optimized 3D tissue models (liver, kidney, etc.) 
•Utilizes a battery of assay technologies to evaluate effects of modulators on bioprinted tissue constructs, including ELISA, qPCR, viability and histology 
•Identifies and implements new assay technologies that have an impact on assay throughput and/or performance 
•Performs primary cell culture and maintenance of bioprinted tissues 
•Works with customers and management to refine project goals and timelines 
•Summarizes data and reports results to supervisor, internal groups, senior management and external customers  
•Adheres closely to defined timelines to meet internal and customer goals, often dealing with multiple projects in parallel 
•Directs, mentors and leads Research Associates and other support staff as needed to enable project execution 
•Other Duties as assigned.



Requirements: 

Senior Scientist Skills & Experience: 

•Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology or related field 
•5+ years post-doctoral experience, with at least 3 years' experience in an industry setting, 3 plus years in pharma or CRO preferred 
•3+ years supervising junior scientific staff 
•DABT certification preferred 
•Specific training in toxicology, pharmacology or drug safety notably in liver and kidney, with extensive experience on in vitro assays utilized in toxicological assessment 
•Extensive experience in most of the following:  mammalian tissue culture (preferably with primary human cells), ELISA, qPCR, histology, flow cytometry 
•Experience evaluating and implementing new techniques. 
•Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary groups in a fast-paced work environment 
•Ability to work independently on experimental design, execution, and analysis 
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills and track record of ability to effectively present scientific data 
•Detail and task oriented 
•Positive attitude 
•Ability to keep calm under pressure 
•Some weekend work will be required
